Classes, College, Classmates

Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.

It's the 15th of March which means it is/was my first official day of college! (and my cousin's 17th birthday). I'm currently sat on the couch with my legs up, wet haired and in pyjamas, just relaxing after what was an eventful and not to mention, pretty amazing day.

I haven't woken up early for school since...well, obviously since high school ended. Waking up and having to get straight into the shower and be ready by 7 am was like experiencing a blast to the past. I started out my day as any other first day new kid would; anxious and sweating nervously. The thing I feared the most about being a new place was having to make friends and being in the same school for the past 11 years really doesn't prepare you for that. Thankfully, I have friends from my old school who by the way I've practically grown up with that are already enrolled there so I was pretty safe. At least till they had to leave for class and I was left in a daunting hall filled with people I didn't know. The new CAL and SAM students had orientation together and throughout the day, I was pretty much trying to figure out who's in which lol. So far, I only know of 5 who are taking CAL, 6 including myself out of 17. The rest of the people I've talked to were all from SAM which made me wonder, WHERE ARE MY CAL CLASSMATES?

I told myself yesterday that I was going to make friends, I was going to make an effort, I was going to be friendly and ask them questions, I wasn't going to let my shyness stop me from anything, and bam. I was still shy as ever when the first couple of hours flew by. I think everyone was honestly. We were all really quiet and awkward lol. Then, lunch came and a couple of seniors had taken us out in groups to eat by the mall because the college does not have a canteen. Ironically, we ended up at a restaurant called 'Canteen'. I think that lunch group together really made us bond though because right after we finished and the seniors had to leave for classes, we went roaming around the mall together and had legitimate not-small-talk conversations which were absolutely guh-reat. When we returned back to the college, we waited outside the hall by some tables and you could really see each and every one of us getting along and such. I was with a group of 4 other girls who were just the sweetest people.

After filling up the seats in the hall again, we listened to more of the talk and for our last hour, the Student Council split us up into groups again to go on a campus tour. There weren't much to see and went by fairly quick since the college is quite small. Honestly, that's what I really like about it. I think the small size makes everyone really bond each other. The Student Council people were really enthusiastic and did an amazing job of trying to make us all feel welcomed. TBH, I'm really excited to see all my new friends tomorrow hehe!

FAST FORWARD TO 10 DAYS LATER.

I forgot to blog the rest of the week. Lol. Sorry.

So, to shorten and summarise the story about the past two weeks up would go a little like this.

1) Orientation Party

- Twas amazing. We had more talks in the hall from 9 to 2.30 then moved upstairs to a different hall where I assume they use as a room for the Dance Club since it has mirrored walls. There were two rows of chairs lined up against the wall and the Student Council once again entertained us with movie trailers, games, songs, and most importantly, amaaaaazing pizza! It was a superhero themed party as well so most of us were dressed in superhero logo-ed t-shirts which I must say was pretty cute. I wore my brother's Hulk one since my Superman logo one was already a bit too small for me.

2) First Day of Classes

- We were separated into our respective programs and classes the day before the first day of actual classes, which was on Friday. The SAMs students went off with their group and the CALs stayed together, at least up until we had to separated into the Sciences and Humanities classes. I got put into HS3 with 10 other classmates and out of the 10 of them, I've only talked to and knew the name of one lol. Now that it's been over a week though, we've become a sort of tight knit family. At every class we went to, the teachers kept telling us that we had to really become close and help each other because our success doesn't only depend on ourselves but also on one other.

The actual first day of classes didn't properly start till Monday but nonetheless we still had classes to attend on Friday, which if I remember correctly were Economics, Math and Psychology. I had Accounting on Monday the week after. All I can say about my studies so far is that all the teachers we got for the 4 subjects are absolute ace. I wouldn't trade them for anything and so wouldn't my classmates. Thus, why we are sort of worried for the future class merging and risk of getting different teachers conducting our classes instead.

3) Accounting

- Oh my goodness. Accounting. I've had a total of 7 classes this week which add up to 7 hours of me trying to figure out what the hell goes to Debit and what goes to Credit. I kid you not I'm still confused right now even though my teacher (which is the sweetest of all teachers) had explained it to me countless times. My friends have pretty much caught up with the concept of double entries and I can totally feel myself turtling along behind all of them when we have to do exercises in class. Fortunately though, my aunt has taken A-Level Accounting back when she was in school so I've pretty much gotten myself a readily available tuition teacher.

4) Lunch

- One of the highlights of this week was having lunch with 3 of my primary/high school friends in between classes. We've literally been friends since we started school and being able to keep that friendship for around 11 years is flippin' amazing. The 3 of them have been in the college since September last year so they took me out to see the food options we had around there. It was really nice to be around people I've grown up with and still feel that comfortableness we have whilst together.

Speaking of lunch though, I've been to around 5 different places already and my favourite one is the small Korean restaurant where I had cheese ramen. WHO KNEW CHEESE AND INSTANT NOODLES TASTED SO GOOD? I definitely didn't. I also used the skinny metal chopsticks they had instead of my usual thick plastic ones and wow I didn't think they would be so much harder to use lol. I had noodles slipping out everywhere. The side dishes though I could pick up ez pz.

5) Homework

- I've accumulated so many different homework and being the person that doesn't write in planners/journals and if does, doesn't even check it at home, I decided to download a task manager on my phone because I'm on it 24/7. Therefore, it serves as a constant reminder that I actually have work to do and that I should probably stop scrolling through Instagram. As of right now, I've got 6 things left to do for the weekend which are reading/studying a Mann, Vrij, Bull journal for Psych, a mind map on the things we learnt this week for Economics, Double Entries and Balancing for Accounting, and Functions & Graphs for Math. I'm pretty much booked with work these next two days. Plus, the fact that I have to spend like 6 hours at my driving school tomorrow just takes my time up even more.
Adding to that, I also have a Psychology class test coming up some day next week.

-----------------

I realize I haven't posted anything on Instagram and my blog for ages. However, I am going to try to keep up with blogging especially since it takes more time compared to Instagram which is just click pick and post. Have a good weekend loves! x
