"Travelling–it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a
storyteller."
-Ibn Battuta
In 2014, my family and I took a trip to a couple of different countries in Europe and I thought I'd refresh my memories of those places by writing this travelogue almost a year later.
The photos in this post are of my own unless stated not.
Kuala Lumpur
Our day started pretty early around 4/5 in the morning and with our hands full of luggage and hand carry bags, we set off to wait for the taxi downstairs. Normally, I'd be pretty sleepy and tripping everywhere whilst trying to keep my eyes open but of course, this time I was as awake as ever. I love travelling and a travel opportunity like this was one I was ecstatic about.
So, once the taxi arrived, we shoved the bags in the back and drove to KLIA. There, we met up with my grandparents who were also taking the trip with us which made it even better! I think travelling in bigger groups of family increases the excitement level by 70%.
We did the usual baggage check in and such and got onto the train (monorail??) to the international departure building. There, we had breakfast at Delifrance since we were all pretty hungry and to kill time whilst waiting for the plane. I started getting pretty anxious and couldn't finish my bowl of soup. I'm the kind of person who gets nervous when getting on planes because I'm slightly claustrophobic and would feel as if I can't breathe when it is perfectly possible.
Alright, it was time to board the plane and off we went to our first destination, that is our stopover in Dubai!
Dubai
We landed safely in Dubai alhamdulillah after a 6 hour plane journey filled with multiple movies and butt cramps. The food served was amazing by the way and coming from someone who refuses to eat plane food (the smell makes me dizzy), you know it's good.
When we arrived, I think it was in the afternoon and we got driven by shuttle to the hotel just across from the airport. The hotel was near because we had to get back to the airport the following day and we didn't want to be in a rush. There, we didn't have our luggages as it was only a stopover destination. All we had was the clothes we packed in backpacks we carried ourselves. The hotel was an average hotel room; cozy and well lit.
A couple of hours after, we got picked up by a driver who was taking us out on a tour of the city. I don't remember the exact sequence of the places he took us to so I'm just going to say based on whichever I remember first.
We stopped by Jumeirah beach which was breathtaking. It was just around sunset so the skies were painted shades of purple, pink and orange. The sands were finer and softer than the beaches we had in Malaysia.
The Burj Al Arab which is a luxurious 5-star hotel. |

Then, he drove us to Palm Islands and to see Atlantis which was located there as well. Undoubtedly, it was beautiful out there with the lights being lit as it was already night time. Afterwards, we headed to The Dubai Mall which is the world's largest shopping mall for dinner. It was packed with locals and tourists alike. There, we had Arab rice and lamb (i think) and unfortunately, I started having a headache or flu of some sort, I can't quite remember. Felt really blegh and all I wanted was to go back to the hotel and sleep the tiredness off.
The next day, we got up, packed and took the shuttle to the airport.
Next destination: Turkey!
