“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.”
A new year is all about new things, experiences, improvements, and life lessons. Where we went wrong last year, we use the new year as an opportunity to change. At the start of every year, I and of course others, would pray and hope for a better and happier life. Then again, we must always keep it in our heads that the 'better and happier' life we aim for comes from our own effort as well.
This year, I'm stepping into semi-adulthood (by that I mean turning 18 and not stuck in school) and I've really got to step it up a notch and set goals as this is a stage where I need to choose things for myself and my own good.
So, here are my New Year resolutions/goals/plans/hopes/dreams that I hope I don't abandon as usual:-
1. Becoming more confident
- I really really need to sort out my shyness because I've dragged on my life being dependant on other people when I'm out (as said in many of my past posts). Long story short, I just really want to become more open and friendly without being too out there.
2. Learning and being able to speak German
- I've always had a fascination towards languages and being able to actually conversate with someone else in a different language would be a dream come true. Two days ago, I spent the night googling German language classes and found Goethe-Institute, ICSL, and a few others around the area. Sadly, the classes were all night time options and I'm not up for that. The ones in the morning on the other hand were on Saturdays only. I'd love love love to find ones that are held preferably during the weekdays and midday/afternoon time.
3. Doing A-Levels
- I don't know how hard A-Levels are but judging from my friend who's taking them currently, and the multiple amount of videos on youtube I've watched about it, they seem pretty damn hard. Then again, what exam isn't, right? They said it's quite a jump from IGCSEs and seeing that I never took IGCSEs either, I have no base of judgement whatsoever. However, if I do end up taking A-Levels this year, I'd love to take up English Literature, History, Psychology, and Drama & Theatre Studies or Sociology.
4. Overcome OCD
- That's a top ranked goal.
5. Going out more
- I'm more of a house person so seeing me out is quite rare unless it's the weekend but this year, I'd like to be out more. Seeing new places and people would be pretty good for me.
6. Meeting new people
- I love love love meeting new people, especially so if we hit it off right away. Sadly, I do have slight issues in making friends considering how shy I am in real life, but what's there to lose in trying to talk to people anyway, right? Although growing up in an international school, I'd love to make more new friends from abroad yknow, where I can learn different cultures and things about foreign countries and themselves that differentiate from myself and things we do here.
7. Travelling
- I love travelling f you can't already tell from my past blog posts. However, travelling does make me anxious and to get me to the point where I actually enjoy it is quite a long wait but when I do enjoy it, I take to enjoying it to my fullest. No matter whether it's just in the country or overseas, travelling is always fun.
8. Paint/Draw/Read/Write
- If I were to tell someone my hobbies, these 4 words wold pop up in my head in an instant. I haven't been painting/drawing as much as I used to though, so I'm hoping I'd revive that creative spirit in me (if I actually even have any anymore).

I'm totally pumped to making this year better than before and improving in both myself as a being and my life. May 2016 be filled with love and prosperity for everyone else as well! Much love. xx
